The attendance of employees in any organization is of prime importance to the company as it has direct relationship with the efficiency, productivity and the economic status of both the employer and the employee. Ideally an organization should aim at achieving at least for 97% attendance daily. Gone are the days of marking attendance in registers that are more prone to manual error and manipulation. With the advancement in technology an increasing number of companies are opting for installation of attendance software.

Research has proved that most of the delinquent schools going kids grow up and exhibit the same behavior at office. Giving one hundred percent attendance to the company is more of an ethical issue. Tardiness and absenteeism can also be considered as the offshoots of poor attendance. At the time of joining an organization it is advisable to have a detailed knowledge about the company policies regarding provisions for leave.

Any organization expects the employees to report at the office on time. This makes the life of everyone easy. Besides that the employee gains confidence, become self disciplined and can learn a lot in short span of time. Coming to office on time should not be restricted to the lower level of employees. With the same dosage of seriousness the middle and top management should be dealt. This is mainly because only the people turning up to office on time and strictly following the rules can command respect from the subordinates and correct them.

The other problems faced by the organization is that even if employees come on time they take frequent breaks and escape from the work premises before the office timing. This is also an indirect form of absenting from the work. Apart from genuine reasons if the company and employer meet each others expectation there should not be any reason for frequent absenteeism. It is observed that in most of the cases employees are absent from the work place mainly because of the Supervisors and Managers.

Sick Leave and absenteeism has a major impact not only on the company's productivity but also is a costly affair. The leave allowances are decided based on the factors like levels of compensation and benefits and eligibility requirements. The sick leave is basically a well crafted strategy by the company to combat the absenteeism.

Non conducive work atmosphere, increase work load, low pay, poor benefits and jobs that underutilized the employee’s capability are some of the major causes of absenteeism and leave. Besides that low job satisfaction, sub-standard working conditions, unfair treatment received by first-line supervisors and lack of career advancements also contribute to the same. Remember these things when coming up with ways to benefit from this type of strategy.
